B61 single drive chassis layout

Hi all,

Looking for diagrams, pictures and information on the chassis layout of a single drive B61.

I am currently building one out of 2 1/2 chassis that I have and they have all been extended over the years and additional holes added.

I have the positions for the rear x-member and the one that the cab sits on but I am not sure if there is another one in between.

Also looking for info on how the rear spring hangers are arranged on the chassis; lots of extra holes there.

I am also trying to work out which holes in the chassis I can weld up that weren't there originally.

Any pictures or drawing would also be a great help.

A single axle, there will be a crossmember where the front and rear springs attach to the frame. This will maximize the strength.

Between the rear cab crossmember and the "front" spring cross member, there usually is not a cross member as show in the diagram unless you are going for a longer wheelbase single axle rig. It was used on the LJX though.

Any pictures of the chassis from the battery box back would be great as i am trying to work out which holes to fill in. Also a picture of the 2nd last cross member would be helpful, the one in front of the diff.

Here is mine with suspension removed:

That is the front crossmember for the front spring mounts. The rear spring mount area is partially cut off, but you can just see an outline on the last 2" of frame. The previous owner had welded a large piece of channel across the back for a pintle hitch. It was easier to just cut it all off then try to reuse it.

Guys, any help with identifying the unoriginal holes in the following pictures would be much appreciated. I plan on filling them in. This is the left hand rail of a right hand steer truck.

So, this is the right hand side, or the drivers side here in Australia. I guess I should have explained that the reason for there being so many extra holes is because the chassis was extended at some stage to accommodate a bogie drive; I am putting it back to single axle but my other B models are all bogies. So I am good with most of the holes up front but as you can see there is a hell of a mess at the rear. Any help is much appreciated.

if I had it in front of me, I could probably circle every hole that wasn't original. I have studied them enough and welded a bunch up in my frame because someone added helper spring brackets. most of those holes In between the two spring hangers can be welded up. the only ones that were original are 1/4 ones for the wiring and air line clamps. other than that Mack didn't drill any holes between the front and rear spring hangers from the factory. the 5/8 ths holes in front of the drear front spring hanger are original along with the 5/8ths ones in front of the cab mount crossmember. the 1/2 inch holes on both sides should be symmetrical for mounting battery boxes and air tank brackets. other than those and the 1/4 ones top and bottom for air line clamps, not much is original I can take a picture of mine tomorrow if youd like.

Mate, as they say "A picture is worth a thousand words" so they would be most appreciated. I don't have the rear spring hangers but understand they utilise the same holes as the cross members. Some pictures of the rear area, from air tank and battery box back, and any cross members from the one at the rear of the cab to the back of the truck would also be great help. Cheers, Marty.

took some pictures for you. most of my holes are original. some might be drilled out to 5/8 from 1/2 but they are 98% original

few more. somewhere along 59-60 the 1/4 holes for air and wire clips got moved from the top and bottom of the rail to the center or vise versa. you can see the 1/4 stainless bolts in my frame
