A hot shift has clutches in it so you can shift it in gear fluid engages it. An air shift means you need to stop the truck clutch it and the shift the pto in gear. The hot shift can be shifted with the truck in gear and moving althought I would not recommend doing it at high speeds.

Ok! Thanks that make sense being that the truck has no clutch. I'll tell you with this allison I'm starting to see the benefits before I even bring this pup home. It seem that it will be a lot easier on the Operator! No worn out leg, both hands can stay on the wheel, black topping, milling will be much easier!
