My wife just gave Microsoft $119.99 for Windows 8 for her lap top. Installed it and updated to 8.1 plus all the patches, get her the Microsoft Security updates for 8.1 for her.

After this is all done she gets this message after boot up

Windows 8.1 will no longer receive security updates or support after 13 May. This is your 4 week countdown warning.

From Microsoft site

Windows 8.1 Update is a cumulative update to Windows 8.1,” said Microsoft Senior Product Marketing Manager Ben Hunter: “next month’s security updates (on May 13th, the next ‘Patch Tuesday’) will be dependent on Windows 8.1 Update.”

N ow to try and get her money back. Paul

I read the same thing yesterday (Tuesday). WIN8.1 Update is to be similar to XP. Many complaints that MS dropped XP. I also read the IRS is paying Microsoft several million dollars for XP support. F'in MS and their software crap. I shoulda bought an Apple.

BTW, still working out "issues" with WIN8.1. Newest issue...downloading digital magazines (PDF). Nothing happens when I click on DOWNLOAD.

I got a new computer last year. I made sure it had W7 not 8. Seems to be as much as a nightmare as Vista was. You can always uninstall 8.1 and go to 7

I have a copy of WIN7 Pro that I can install. I made sure I "found" a copy of Office 2010 to install. Office 2013 is controlled by MS ($95/yr user fee) on your computer. Talk about big brother watching .
