11-22 or 11-24 maybe maybe not

So here is a good question for some of you. I pulled of the 11-22 tires off the back off my truck and rolled one up to the front witch are 11-24 and they appear to have the same overall hight. Now the 24 is bald but I thought there was supposed to be a big difference ?????

The rears are 11:00x22 tube type.

The fronts are 1124.5 tubeless. look at the rims they're different.

The dayton wheels are 22" inch diameter.

11:00x22 tube type change over to 1124.5 for tubeless tires but will both fit on the 22" dayton wheels.

Same goes for 10:00x20 tube type, they change over to 1122.5 tubeless but will both fit on 20" dayton wheels.

24.5 rim fits on a 22 tube type hub ??!!...

That makes sence.

I just thought 24.5 fits onto 24 and 22.5 onto 22's.

And... What tubeless may fit onto 20?...

As for the tyre sizes, I found out a couple of misteries also.

Once I got off a tyre shop 11R24.5 tubless tyre and 11.00-24 tyre and a rim.

Being wanting to save the space in my car's trailer I resolved to just lay 24.5 tyre on the 24 rim being shure the first had lager ID and must fit on with some play. To my great surprize it wouldn't fit free but with a forse. So they both 24 and 24.5 looked like had almost the same fitting hole!

Another story. I bougt 11R24.5 tyres for my R and layed them with the 12R24 tube type tyre I had for my NR army truck.

Thought 11R24.5 must be about close of the overall diameter to 12R 24. Or maybe less a little bit.

11R22.5's are the tubeless tires that fit on 20" dayton wheels.

11:00x24 or 12:00x24 are tube type 24" inch tires and fit on 24" dayton wheels, these only come tube type there is no tubeless equivalent for them.

They also make a 24" Budd rim. 39 Baby Mack explained the rest in detail. 24" tube type are getting hard to find even in the Northeast. Not impossible but pricey also. I had them on a tandem dump never again if I can help it. Very heavy to work with and expensive. The rag 24" are not as heavy to handle. Joe D.

I have such the 24 daytons with 24 rims and 12:00R24 tube tyres on my army Mack.

MH has 24.5 rims on spokes and I thought they could be interchrgeble.

Really I don't need that swap but now I know it's impossible.

Joe, what do you mean of the reg 24"?

Vlad Rag is a slang (description) word for bias ply tires. They are quite a bit less to buy if you can find them. Joe D.

Joe I just thought "reg" of "regular", now understood.

Here I had a "happy" chance to find 24 radials, no bias on a surface.

The originals were rags, but old and rough.

Hubs are marked A=20",B=22",C=24". Without measuring it is easiest way to determine size.Joe D

Sorry about that!

Couldn't see well through the rim in the first picture to see whether the front was tube or tubeless.

Also figured that the truck was built with the same size wheels all they way around.

I think it's odd that it has 22" wheels on the rear and 24" wheels on the front.

I asked that question on here a wile back but no one really said there was a reason for the different hub size

If you get the build sheet from Mack Museum it will say if it was built that way or someone changed it thru the years. Are they 55,000 lb. rears? Most but not all B-81'S were built with 55,000'S.or larger. Joe D.

some B61sx's and B81sx's along with Rd600sx's had 22'' hubs in the back and 24's on the front. not really sure of the reason for this. maybe so they go thru the mud better???

I've seen different tire manufactures vary in over all diameter. One tire you have might be on the upper end of the specs and the other on the lower end. When mixing on an axle, you have to compare side by side to make sure they are close.
