Hi all,

Finally getting around to try to stop the roll in my 1982 R Model 350 E6 engine.

Have been trying to find a pic of where the buffer screw is located.

Is it the screw in the pic on the rear side of the injection pump?

The buffer screw you're referring to I've only seen on a 2 stroke Detroit.

Usually when a Mack does this the flyweights in the governor are worn and as stated above the pump should be removed and sent to

a reputable pump shop for repair and recalibration.

The buffer screw story gets started by drivers that having fun out of other drivers.years back that was a common request to set my buffer screw and when your in there clean the smoke off of my injectors.Another thing I have been asked to do many times is to change the button in a two cycle DD.Or set the rack on my mack.

This is my original description - Seems to pulse on idle (sometimes it is fine though) and really pulses when you just touch the accelerator as you can hear in the YouTube clip. You really need to put your foot down but when you change to the next gear it does the same until you really put your foot down.

Another thing it starts first time every time. Only started about 4 times a year in the past 3 years and before that sat around.

And it doesn't do it all the time. Hasn't burnt any oil as the oil is still clean after 3 years...with a few trips on the road but mostly sitting around. Does that sound like something is wrong with either the pump or head?

Just saying...pour it in a pan and i might cook my steak in it looks that clean. Everyone always says the oil goes black straight away after you put it in. Maybe they are just making the poster feel better about their dirty oil :idunno:

. I second this all Mack's I had this problem was internal......only other thing I remember look real close at your accel. Lever on pump shaft make sure not loose or no cracks.....my two cent......bobby j.

Make sure the throttle lever has no wear at the throttle shaft If the lever internal springs are worn it will cause the idle to be erratic .

if the lever is good then the governor is worn and heeds to be removed and repaired!

OR just live with it!
