I have used industrial enamel sold from Cloverdale Paint which is now called Rodda Paint. Cost about $35-40 a gallon. Not a show truck finish but very tough and reasonably priced. Sales guy told me it was self priming and has rust inhibitors in it.

What a tough call here. I feel any name brand paint is good but, many factors exist. Are you wanting a rattle can type paint or a spray gun type paint? I use both. When you are in tight areas it is better to use a rattle can to keep down the overspray.

I should have said

I have it striped down engine out cab off wheels off.

Going to sand blast it .

Epoxy prime it

Repaint it. With spray gun

Thanks for the info I am looking into the options you guys are suggesting

Epoxy primer the raw sandblasted metal then top coat with AUE-300 Black Polyurethane (Gloss) or ALK-200 Acrylic Modified Alkyd Enamel. Use a gravity feed spray gun with 1.5-1.8mm tip about 20-30 psi cap pressure.

Agree with the POR 15. It will actually trap the rust. Expensive when you compare it to other paints, but its WELL worth the few dollars extra. A little goes a LONG way. Great stuff but do put something on it as it will fade when expossed.

Last thing I used it on was a dam gate for a small hydro plant, 5 years in water and it is holding up as good as the galvy, only used this because the piece was to big to dip. I am doing the frame on my F600 with it.

BILL HIRSH (hirshauto) make a good paint for frames and i think works better than POR15. Available in spray, quarts, gallons. Is located in Newark, NJ and has been in business a long time 1-800-828-2061 Seems to hold up good on frames
