Popular Post BC Mack Posted September 14, 2015 Author Popular Post Share Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) Hi Vlad.... yes, for sure, part trois will be coming next spring..... still got three weeks left for part deux though and have pulled everything off the front now ...!!! if I get enough completed this year I will post some more photos the building behind the MH is where I am restoring my "winter project" Greyhound Scenicruiser, facility is owned by a railway museum and they use it as a heavy repair shop for their locomotives... I'm not a train buff, but when one of those GM F9's rumbles past with it's 3000hp two-stoke pounding away it makes me feel meek that my bus 8V71 two stroke is a mere 290hp... by design they look pretty similar, but the train's engine is a lot bigger.. and leaks a lot more oil..!!! Popular Post BC Mack Posted October 23, 2015 Author Popular Post Share Posted October 23, 2015 Well, Summer is truly over so my project ends another chapter... change hats for the winter and go work on my bus.Progress went well, never got to drive it out on the main road but my pleasure is fixing stuff, not driving, so I'm just having a ball..!!!Pictures..... first lot...the front came apart well, no serious issues but glad I did it as there was some small rust to deal with and a lot of dirt which will trap moisture, I had to sort out the hose and wire harness that runs from chassis to cab, every tilting cab has this issue, so I added wrap protection to the air hoses and replaced the factory wire harness plastic sleeving. for a trial I have installed led hi/lo beams as well as foglamps, probably overkill but hey, it looks cool. 6 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Popular Post BC Mack Posted October 23, 2015 Author Popular Post Share Posted October 23, 2015 Second lot of photosCab floor in driver's area, what a mess, dirt and alum powder.... seems to be common problem for the footplate to corrode but mine was in reasonable shape, it was the spacer plate under the air throttle that dissolved.I have a new plate (did I just give Farmer palpitations?) but not going to use it right now, back in the box and into the safe. The old one cleaned up and got a good painting.Carpet was so bad it was ready to throw out.. but I got a quote on making a new one and out came the scrubbing brush and hose, came out not too bad. I put everything back into the cab without fixing it down to see what it looks like, just a bit more cleaning around the sides and it will all go back in.Both seats will come out, I have an air passenger highback seat coming so I will make two good seats out of four.The start solenoid on the later MH was simply wrapped in rubber, not too well protected for a wheelarch, so, off to Home Depot and came up with this sealed electrical box... simple to fit and will keep the road crap off my electrics... 5 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I went to pick it up and ended up buying another MH, two 44k complete axles and a big box of parts... all I wanted was a drom..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!anyway, the drom is now serving a useful purpose as a parts bench...the 89 MH has to be prepped to go on a trailer so off with the logging headach rack and stacks... it even runs and drives, but with a sick E9 and a frame cracked it is a parts donor, for now.. :-)hope you have enjoyed my summer as much as I have, next April should have me reporting once again as I will no doubt have dabbled on a few things during the winter.BC MackPSooops, missed one photo from last post... 6 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Already scored a few parts from it for my red MH, now looking into the possibility of selling the heavy Neway rear clip, 38k? I managed to get the truck stored inside and got enough ahead that I won't have to rush around in the spring to get it ready for show season.even though a truck looks good it's always smart to rip it apart anyway... even if the only reason is to remove the dirt, I find this a big problem on my bus and it seems to retain dampness which gives off the "wet dog" aroma.anyway... as this is a pictorial, off we go.interior walls and ceiling stripped outheater box was filthy but in good shapeby chance I found a dodgy light switch which was poorly repaired, will correct this.got my new roof marker lights fitted and sealed up, much easier without the headliningthe overhead panel had some de-bonding of the partitions so this was repaired, but a pain to lift and install by myself. 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Popular Post BC Mack Posted January 31, 2016 Author Popular Post Share Posted January 31, 2016 next batch of photos...tidied up the mirrors and arms, replaced rusty bolts with stainlessright door has a power window.... has anyone ever overhauled one of these??? goes down part way then gets stuck and won't lift it up... however, when glass detached the glass slides freely... my parts truck has the same issue so have to fix one of them.then the engine got some work, found the hoses were old and hard, so heater, coolant, power steering and rad hoses were replaced... with all the hoses off I found my oil leak, brass elbow on compressor oil line was cracked.of note, the lower rad hose elbow has a very close clearance to the front mount, as the mount got oily the rubber squished enough to allow a slight rub which split it inside.... nice catch, new rubbers and raising the rad mount 3/8" and all is well. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I can take the bbq to a truck show.installing was fun with just one of me.... but a 50ton overhead crane and it was done with no issues, just love playing with that crane..!!!!when my parts truck arrived, I stripped out the interior right away, cleaned easily and was installed... justified buying a whole truck..!!! the stack of panels that came off my truck will be tucked away, I might be making new ones and use these as templates. 6 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

BC Mack Posted January 31, 2016 Author Share Posted January 31, 2016 thanks TimmyI detached the glass from the vertical slide and operated the switch, as the slider moves down it stops so it isn't the glass but probably dirt or something jamming the vertical slide... just looking for a product model or some clue so I can go searching the net for drawings...
