Aight I got nothing, been looking at an RD on truckpaper, says it has an 8LL but its a Mack trans so they're wrong. Question is which one, I can't get a good view of the shift pattern but it looks like a 7spd but with one more position. Its got 4 positions forward, three back, the three positions farthest to the left have a split, the 4 to the right do not. Anybody know which trans this is, its only got the one splitter on the shifter and if you can only split reverse and the first two gears that would be just like a 7spd only with one extra splittable low gear.

Looks like you can split reverse and the first two gears of a six speed, the last 4 are one range only.

mack 8 speed....just like the mack 7 they suck!....

very slow low gears and very fast over drive but its basicly a 5 speed except you pretty much have to do a range change with a load on... they were speced with real slow rears 4.42-5.73 were common. its kinda like a 5 speed but your first 3 gears are very slow and you don't always use them when empty. most people drive them by starting in the low side/2rd hole. then flip the switch into Hi and back into 1st hole. I really disliked them as you almost always had to start in the low side with a load on and flip the switch to get back into hi and then do your normal 1-2-3-4-5 but you still were doing a best of 65MPH at the end kida pointless if you ask me .IMO a old 6 speed is way better. If you wanted more gears a 12 over drive would have been the better trans because of the ease of shifting.

That's my point of view !.

Its kindof like the secind pattern there but on top there are 4 gear positionsstarting from the left it goes forward far left R and R lo, out and back forward to the right of R is 1 and 1lo, back to 2 and 2lo, then forward and next to 1 is 3, back to 4 forward next to 3 is 5 and back to 6. I have driven every kind of truck and transmission there was out there or so i thought until I saw this one, never seen one like it. guess it would be Lo-1-2 HI-1-2-3-4-5-6, just never seen one and I cant read the pattern but looking at others and doing the guessing game thats what I come up with.
