B model wiper Question

I see a few B models with the wipers mounted above the windshield. I figured it was the early B models with L model wipers But I see them on a 1953 and even a 1961. Were B models built at different factories or was the wiper location an option?

believe all the b models were built In Allentown. never seen one first hand with wipers over the windshield. have seen a lot of B model firetrucks with wipers on the inside and outside of glass tho

Interesting!Lot of B's I've seen said New Brunswick New Jersey on the door tag,i assumed they were built there also???

Plainfield,NJ is what most of the door tags on the later ones I've seen,before that,NY,NY.

Ahhh,maybe it was Plainfield I was thinking about!Were they made in these places also?

Could it be possible they we're put on top as a customer option........maybe had the same wiper motors as the mb's with the one control switch mounted between the two motors........bobby j.

believe ALL B models were built in Allentown. the door tag only represents where the Corporate offices were at the time. the early 50's B models said New York ,Ny, then it was Plainfield,Nj. then some said Montvale Nj . and finally the R models said Allentown Pa

Paul,the first B-Model picture (Franklinville,NJ) is from a town near where I grew up in South Jersey and was a former Hess Oil truck. Both that truck and the truck I learned to drive on came from the same auction and were both 1963 models.ours had the wipers in the cowl like most B's . Guess i never really paid attention to the wiper location before!..................................Mark

They must be vacuum powered for trucks without air.

Isn't that cool to find out. The B model I learned to drive is in Syosset L.I. sitting all restored in a garage and hasn't seen the daylight in 25 years. Sad. Paul
