Carlot: My imiadiate area is most likely safe, I live in a green belt here in the valley, flying sparks and burning debris is a concern for us as it might land in a hay stack or blow inside of an open building. A bad senareo for us would be continuied strong south winds. or the loss of power that would affect out irrigation abilitys.

getting a few lightning strikes to the north of me now, some in the U.S. some in B.C. looks like some rain to go with, so likely to have some sleeper fires to deal with in a day or so.

SIPWLKR: we have them, but the state dont like to pay for them! also a u-blade just makes a hell of a mess that has to be cleaned up later. we run mostly d-6 and smaller dozers with 6 way blades, they are faster to move point to point and we can turn the transport around easy, tractors,jeeps,lowboys, and boosters not so much. In the right conditions I would love to sit on a 8-9 sized machine and push line. In heavy timber we use feller bunchers to cut a wide line and then use smaller dozers to grub out between the stumps. guys have also built dozerengines a dozer with the ability to pack and pump water in remote areas that one ton brush trucks cant reach. others take grapple skidders and either remove the grapple and install a water tank n pump, or simply pack a round tank in the grapples. the term for these are skidgines.
