Yeah U model BBC was 90 inches I think. And yes almost no room on the passenger side because of the dog house. And for you guys who haven't seen me, Im like 6'0-6'1 maybe, and me in the passenger seat. Fun.

...and the standard R-model way back then was 103" BBC, if you trust the Mack brochures...

"Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines."

I thought be could post all the U models in one place like the Superliners. I could not find another thread. Here is my submission. It was an tractor for Swan Oil before it was donated to Gilbertsville Fire Company PA. It was in beautiful condition when it was sold to the local dirt track(Grandview) to water the track. Gilbertsville also has another tractor trailer tanker and a straight truck tanker on a U chassis. I should have bought the other tanker to preserve it. I don't know where they ended up. attachicon.gifimage.jpgattachicon.gifimage.jpg And yes,Vinny, did get the serial number. Mike. attachicon.gifimage.jpg

Wow I remember going to the housing parade for either this or the R-Model Tanker and their new (at the time) CF Mack with a Pierce Body......Which I understand to be the first Pierce body mounted onto a CF.....I think I have a ceramic mug somewhere from the parade.

TWO STROKES ARE FOR GARDEN TOOLS

things seemed a little better in the 80's I think. even tho they are ugly (sorry Vinny) at least they still had color and there was more than just white Walmart and Werner trucks on the road.... im likin the Diamond tread Goodyears on that first Jones' U model. what id do for a few of those NOS.

U came about for one reason-give Mack a 90" BBC to compete with 9000 Whites, 358/359 Brockways and later big time fleet competition in 1970 from the LN Louisville. Moving cab to side was good alternative to raising cab up in the air.
