Fantastic stuff there chassis 1001 wonder if it is number one built it may have gone to NewZealnd does anyone know when they got them ? as some NZ trucks appear have come from the US and some from Australia

Well some more not R 800 but I will bung it up here because the other picture relating to this is on post 16 on the first page of this topic

have a read and enjoy a bit lite on detail Truckin'life was always and still is a pretty useless magazine the old Truck and Bus gave facts figures fuel figures road speeds model number build data the lot anyway to good not to share some of you might get some enjoyment out of this seeya

I have got a feeling that I have read some were that this was a R 700 ???? but cant think were it was brain fade I guess LOL

23K front axles have 2 lug nuts per spoke.

more dumb questions are these 8 foot wide ie can you drive them down a normal road with out signs ect

I think there might have been on at the Gatton transport museum near Brisbane Western Oilfields trucking

pure porn either way keep these pictures coming

The DM800 with 1400x24's is 9" wide.

thanks for the answers David there is a lot for me to learn about these R 800's most importantly better find one

heres the western oilfields DM 800 at Gatton Transport Museum you can see that the cab has been shifted to the middle at some stage it is still LHD

one tough looking hot rod

these first two I believe are the same truck I was told before in its working days and after restored in more recent times

From New Zealand 

From I believe Patrick Mark Mahoney photo

 Maroa Logging NZ Forest Products Kinleith Tokoroa (1978-1980) Kenworth 848 Off Highway  very similar at the time of the Canadian Pacific trucks at Kinleith and Kaingaroa

 

Can see a R 800 behind the Kenworth 

Interesting to me at least, these were stamped DM on the chassis rail, I  am thinking they used a DM rails to build the R 800

Australian and New Zealand Macks are very much custom built and almost all used a R model chassis except the R 800

This applied COE and conventional cabs well into the 2000's FB-IMG-1655841282896.jpg

Anyway with permission from Pete Ramsey the person that posted there I will share it here 

Thank you Pete, he has a pretty impressive collection of photos and magazines etc of Australian trucking history, if you blokes get a chance do a Google search for Overlanders photos etc on the HCVC forum, well worth a look and will take a day or so to view them

They are some good looking bulldogs there, I  would have absolutely no use at all for a R 800 but I would love one

I have seen two come up for sale but are gone in a heart beat, they only made 26 so the chances are slim of me ever getting one
