The axle is a Metitor RS23-160 with the driver controlled differential lock. It looks like the previous owner engaged the lock while the truck was still moving. We found metal in the magnets in the bottom of the axle housing and the ends of the locking splines are rounded off.

Is this an issue or is it common with this type of air locker?

I use the chunk method of failure analysis ...... no chunks on problems! ........ looks like normal wear and tear if preloads are present and brgs. look good I'd clean and reasemble

same method as me and seems to work ok
