Is there any advantage to dual stacks on a six cylinder diesel downstream of the exhaust manifold. There might be an advantage on a split manifolds as on the old time 673 187 HP vs single manifold 170 hp. & the cummins 220hp put puts & the white flathead gasers. Is there an advantage or is it just cosmetic. Are split manifolds or individual headers offered on MP engines.

Duals are show on an inline 6 turbo charged diesel. The single pipe after the turbo provides a small amount of back pressure needed to help the turbo spool to its maximum efficiency. The pipe off the turbo is the start of any restriction and is all that is needed for its operation. Every inch of pipe after that just holds efficiency back or keeps the flow the same.

Really depends, all engines need a specific amount of back pressure but diesels more so for thermal efficiency, to little back pressure will give a it power loss, lower temps with lower efficiency, lower MPG and dilute the oil. To much will give higher temps, power loss lower mpg and break down engine oil from excessive heat. Paul
