I would also like to thank freightrain for his reply to my last post sorry it took so long.

Because 5th Lo Split and 5th Direct are a lower ratio than 4th Hi Split

When you're ready to upshift from 4th Hi Split you just shift the main to 5th, leave the compound in Hi Split.

BTW, in case you didn't know, Lo Lo is not a part of the on road shift sequence, Lo Lo is just for use in extreme conditions in 1st or 2nd gear only.

Herbs got you covered.

As for the Quad being better then Duplex? Not sure you'll notice unless you put some load on it as you only gain a few extra gears(besides the Lo/lo holes which are only good for slow movement).

I mostly haul a 35k trackloader. A short road test today seems good to the hisplit in third maby the sun will shine tomorrow so I ca swap some tires around ad try all the gears

Ya, with that weight...extra gears will help. I know my triplex is way better then a Duplex as I'll shift it like a duplex sometimes to just see how it does. It really takes the wind out of the old girl with that lack of gears. Not that it's quick to begin with...but even with my meager load(14K lb) it really makes a difference.
