the first Mack that I drove for any length of time was a 86 valueliner e-6 350 12 sp. 3 axle dump we also had 2-87 rd 688's 2-88 rd 688's a 88 e-9 500 superliner any ways my question was where did the valueliner fit in I remember it had a different hood and 1/4 fenders with saddle mounted fuel tanks but other than that was the same as the rd's. just trying to figure out why they built the truck when it wasn't mechanically different from the rd. series

Usually more aluminum components and was suppose to be a "west coast" truck i believe

I do believe Matt you are correct. Intended for the bulk hauling industry. I think the early ones were built in California (Hayward) when that plant was functioning.

I still want to see that thing in person be sure to post if its ever in wa. or northern or. DO you know if all Aussie valueliners were setback front axles? or could you get them either way?

Valueliners were the light weight trucks. Aluminum bellhousing, hubs, air tanks, fuel tanks etc. Frame you could get either way. We had a '81 valueliner and a '82 R model spec'd identical, the valueliner was over 1000 pounds lighter. They also had the Hayward grille.

This is the first 5 pages of the R series operator's handbook.

I thought some might find it interesting, and it helps reinforce the earlier post about the lighter weight RL / RS

WELL THERE YA GO! I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE RS/RL TRUCKS WERE HIGHWAY, THE R600/700 WERE HIGHWAY/HEAVY DUTY AND THE RD/DM WERE HEAVY DUTY. MY BAD!!!
