Prepped and painted the rim, spokes, center cap, clips, and nuts. Once dry, put it all back on the truck.2. While the tire was off, we replaced the brake line to that wheel, which was rubbing on the tire. Brand-new line is a little shorter to keep it from rubbing again.Tomorrow, I plan on pulling off all the stuff from the fenders (directional, mirror bases, etc.) and the bumper to get the fenders and bumper ready for prep and paint. Hopefully we can have them painted by the end of next week.I'm really enjoying having this project to do. You never know what you're going to run into. lol The b model fenders don't always come apart real easy especially after being attached for some many years. Wobblin-Goblin Posted December 23, 2014 Author Share Posted December 23, 2014 I took the bumper off today. That wasn't the easiest job I've ever had, I can tell you that. As you can see, it's beat up quite a bit, so it had to be straightened out a little bit. My uncle and I spent about an hour or two with a 100 ton press, a sledge hammer, and a 5' iron bar "straightening the curves and flattening the hills." By the time we quit for the day, we had it looking A LOT better. Not perfect, of course, but much better.I also took everything off the fenders: directional lights, mirror bases, and the bolts that held the fender extenders. The fenders are now ready for prep.There are no new pictures because I forgot the camera at the garage, but tomorrow I'll post a bunch. Popular Post Wobblin-Goblin Posted December 24, 2014 Author Popular Post Share Posted December 24, 2014 Got a few pics for y'all today.Today we finished straightening the bumper and then cut off the bent foot holds (steps) that were under the bumper. I also stripped, prepped, primed, and painted the push plate, its arms/supports, and the tow hooks.The first two pics are of the truck from earlier in the project, to show how bent up the bumper was. It was in pretty rough shape (bent, twisted, dented all over, etc.). The next pic is of the truck with the bumper, directional lights, and mirror bases off. After that is the truck with the straightened bumper back on (for photo only, not bolted on). The next pic is of the push plate and stuff painted. Wobblin-Goblin Posted December 27, 2014 Author Share Posted December 27, 2014 The shop that I've been doing all the work to my Mack has been closed since Wednesday, so when I left for the day, I brought the bumper with me. Today I stripped it down to metal and tomorrow plan on painting it. Primed and painted the bumper.3. Did body work on the fenders, then primed most of them. The restore takes time (about 1/2 way done) and more money than I expected, but I love my B61. Pulled a couple dents out of the headlight panel that wasn't prepped yesterday.2. Prepped and primed that panel.3. Finished prepping and priming the rest of the fenders and their removal top pieces.4. Cleaned and painted the frame/bumper mounts.5. Started sanding/prepping the radiator cover. It's a shame that it is rusted so badly on top (next to where the Mack Bulldog goes), because most of the rest of the cover is nice, shiny steel that could be clear coated and otherwise left as-is. It's a beautiful sheen.The plan is to paint the fenders tomorrow and if time allows, the radiator cover as well. Grey cab, green fenders and red striping. There are some pictures here on site under ChicagoMacks (57 BCR-AL). Wish you continued success. Glad to see that it is going to be a working truck again. They look absolutely gorgeous.The radiator cover is also primed and ready for metallic silver paint on Friday.
