I want to remove the clutch from my B 61 but have a question. The service manual reads " Use three spring retention tools ( 17- T-1123 or retaining cups ) when removing assembly" . Just can not figure this out looks like every other clutch I have worked on. Thanks for any advise.

It can be done with out them but some times the fingers come loose from the ring that contacts with the throw out brg.The three bolts will go down in the middle of the springs and if you look down in there you will see the threaded holes.I would use them if it was me. But if you back off each bolt that holes the pressure plate to the flywheel little at a time you will be ok.But why take a change. If I remember its just corse thread 3/8 bolts

Sounds like unlike a car clutch which is all captive, a truck plate will basically fall apart when you unbolt it from the flywheel if you don't run some bolts to hold the hat and ring together. Interesting.
