Thought I would post some pictures of what I have done so far. Keep in mind I am not the builder our friend Pavel (the Superliner) is,but am pretty happy with the progress. I didn't have the heart to tell her the real truck was a turd,but want to get it finished anyway! I'd take it out of the case and take a pic,but it's been so long since I moved it I'm afraid it might fall apart. Later I got a ERTL DM600,and then a DM800. It wasn't until '76 that AMT came out with the R model Mack kit,then the Cruiseliner about a year later. Been building models since I was 10-11 years old (still have most of them) so many new things nowadays,tools supplies,techiques etc. come a long way from the old "Mom & Pop" hobby shops (which I miss) First truck I ever built was the AMT "California Hauler" 359 conventional,but I guess nostalgia has something to do with it,cause they are now re-releasing all the old truck kits again,gonna try and do as many as I can,now that I have some degree of skill I lacked as a boy! If I remember only one or two of the AMT 1/25 kits had 22" tires.FWIf I remember right,the White Road Boss,White Western Star,Autocar tractor and dump truck,and the Diamond REO all had the 11:00x22 Uniroyal tires,the rest had either Firestone or Goodyear 10:00x20's. I also remember when AMT went to a really crappy 2 piece tire made out of harder plastic. ERTL used 11:00x20 Goodyears on the Macks,They used some 2 piece tires,too. I only ever had the 4200 IH and the Paystar 5000,don't know how many of their others did.Seems like they all had a good variety of engines,the ERTL DM600 had a ENDT673C,the DM800 hand the ENDT865 V8.The 4200 came with a 903 Cummins and the Paystars had the V800 IH diesel. AMT used the ENDT675 in the R and the 676 in the Cruiseliner, 8V71's in the Astro, Chevy Titan 90,and the early Pete's with 350 Cummins in the later 359,the KW's had a NTA370 with a 5x4 in the W900,the White Freightliner had a 250 Cummins, The later KW Areodyne had a 8V92 with an Allison,and the 2 Tyrone Malone race trucks had 12V71's with Allisons. gearhead204 Posted December 25, 2014 Share Posted December 25, 2014 Mark I'm gonna tell Mrs.Vision that your getting glue all over her quilt block cutting board....don't ask me how I was able to recognize what one is :whistling:I used to do a lot of models as a kid ......later I "overhauled" some to make what I wanted ,like the paystar 5000 log truck got turned in a off hwy. low boy tractor to haul my d8h the log gear went on the v12 ken worth to look like one we had in town. my pete 359 got the frame stretched to make room for the "custom 72" sleeper" and became a tri drive to boot. Mack was pissed that amt disgraced them like that and I think most of the kits were pulled from the market that's why they bring so much. it was the end of the line with Mack licensing anymore kits of Amt to do also I think. been wanting to buy one of those ''Angry Bird'' hood ornaments for years but they also seem to bring a high dollar. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
