FOR SALE question about a new truck that i just bought

Hello mack friends,

I just bought a 1996 mack rb with a 300hp and 7 speed my question to you all. Is does anyone for see a problem with me turning it up to a 350hp ? Pros on cons please

Well, being that the 300 is set up in the high torque-rise Maxidyne configuration (to work with the 7,6,5,or even 8 speed MACK 2000 series transmissions) your option to "turn it up" to 350hp (which is a conventional torque-rise "Econodyne" motor),could get expensive. You're looking at injection pump/turbo work,not to mention a multi speed trans (as to keep the lugging at a minimum) and your axle ratios are paired with the .60:1 overdrive gear of the 7 speed so most likely those would have to be changed along with everything else. Not saying it can't be done,just be prepared to break open the piggy bank. I seen a guy put a E6-300 where an EM6-300 used to sit,and bitched when that motor puked. Like an old-timer told me,"you wont be the 1st at the coffee shop(with a stock MACK),but you'll get there"! My 2 cents Al

My 2 cents,

I have a EM7 with T2080 trans. I turned up the pump a bit which helped and disconnected the smoke eliminator.

This year I had one size larger injectors installed. Which made a big difference. I spent $1000. I am a lot happier for a small cost. Ray

A 350 is only faster than a 300 Maxidyne out on the highway running at 50 MPH and above- With it's broad torque curve the 300 Maxitorque will match a 350 in accelleration because the flow of power will be interupted half as many times. That's why Maxidynes have long been preferred for trucks that run in town, and Econodynes have been preferred for trucks that run on high speed roads with few stops.

I think every one has just about summed it up I have said it before on here back in the sixtys when Maixidynes first came out in OZ they did a road test between Melbourne and Sydney and they proved that although the Maxidyne felt slower over a long journey it proved to be quicker and cheaper to run than anything else that was around on the day

Just a bit more useless information Melbourne to Sydney is about 800 km and crosses our biggest mountain range twice so before spending big heaps of coin you cant get back it might just pay to check some figures
