Nice truck! I'd agree, keep it stock and enjoy it. Though it is always the mindset of "want more"...........I don't think it is moneywise to mess with it unless you can afford to fix it.

Kind of along those lines do any of you have aftermarket programs in your trucks (with computerized injection that is)? I've seen some discussion and am personnaly in favor of them given the improved fuel economy and performance on the 5.9 in my Dodge. It would seem that the same improvements could be made on the big engines. What I have seen sounded promising and might be what 8689Superdog is looking for.

No programs for E9's, they are all mechanical. There is nothing "cheap" you could do to the E9's. You want to PLAY, you got to PAY. Stock and maintained, they will "run just fine". Upgraded turbo, pump turned up, and bigger injectors will make you look in the mirrors to make sure you still have a trailer attached.

Ive got an 85 with an E9 450, Antrim Diesel turbo, injectors and pump turned up, stock they are a beast, Antrim parts they will flatten the Smoky's. If you are just running from the farm Id say turn the pump a hair, lose the puff limiter and let her ride, if you want more, governor spring, more get injectors, more get the bigger Borg Warner turbo. want more after that they can do that too, I think Albert has a big Holset turbo and huge injectors and major pump work, headers but hes in a whole nother league. I can load an excavator and run up a couple mile long hill at 90k and never lose speed from 65 at the bottom and never go over 850 on the pyrometer.

A stock E9 is still far superior to anything in the road today. Once you've drove one for any length of time you'll hate driving anything else. I'd check the timing a set the valves first but if you do a few modifications which is fine too. Just keep up on regular maintainance and drive it right and it will last you a long time.
