1989 RD600 with an e6-300 and a 6spd. It's a 10 wheeler that I'd have to add a lift axle to in order to haul anything of substance here in CT.

The criteria I'm using is the following:

1. Mack

2. R model preferred

3. 1980s vintage so it has the look I want (R model with fiberglass nose), is affordable, and isn't so old that it's probably in poor condition.

4. Tri-axle

Since it's an '89, that's about perfect, IMO for the year. It's not a tri-axle, but if the price is right, I can put one on after buying the truck. The interior seems to be in decent enough condition, too.

They're asking $23,500.

Anybody have any thoughts on this truck?

looks pretty solid...interior is a bit rough, but not too bad. The fresh paint would make me suspicious...also the description...says its a mack 10 speed, you had it as a 6...

"Heavy Duty Trucks - Dump Trucks, , , Horse Power, Suspension, Wheels, Wheel Base, Tire Size, Axle, Ratio, 10 whl, 16 ft stl body, mack e6-300, mack 10 spd, 20k f, 58k r, a/c, jake, double frame, hitch w/ air & elec., camelback susp., 212 w.b."

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part....

OK, that's my bad. I got the transmission screwed up. It's a 10 speed.

And a third one, but the body is a big grain body, so it wouldn't work very well with hauling earthen material.

And finally there's this 1998 DM690S that looks in pretty good shape, but is more than I'd like to spend ($40k)

I would have a uninterested party like mobile mechanic to inspect it if it is something you are serious about I have had good luck with that since I get starry-eyed around things I want to buy.

I also agree for the same or less money you could get what you want.

Consider yourself lucky, you have some nice looking trucks to pick from.

You would have to go a long way to find one nice R for sale up in my part of the world.

I know it doesn't matter….but my favourite is the 89 R688, like the motor. And I would try to find a more suitable dump body for it.

Good luck with your search. There will be one lucky R out there !!

If you are interested in the aluminum coal body R-688 in Evans City,Pa. check it over good. The soft coal haulers really roll the miles and work them hard. Not saying this one was but I had some friends that bought them and they were pretty wore out. Joe D.

You could get something like this http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=5805963 and then you could put your skills and enthusiasm( that we have all seen on your b61) to work putting a pre-92 flat hood on it. You would have to rework the cowl a little but it would look the way you want and you would get an e7 which is a big plus in my book.

What are the weight laws there, how much do for hire trucks carry legally because that what you have haul, keep in mind that a new drop axle is 6 or 7 grand and a few thou to install, that's with out tires,I know because i just had one installed on my 10/w dump and like someone else said 58 rears on a tri is over kill, its what i have on mine but that's what I had already,44 rears is what u want..Good luck

wobblin mate Im no expert I always by crap and fix it up that way I know whats been done and what hasnt and what short cuts I may or may not have taken but the problem I find when I see something that has being painted

I dont know what it was like before

Was it really that rough that it had to be painted to make it look good enough to sell

And I guess the biggest thing is if I see something and the paint job is crap and things are bent and dented then if the people couldnt make the effort to get it neat and tidy before giving it a quick blow over then what does it say about the rest of there repairs ????

I always prefer to find something that is original in paint ect as I can see it in it's warts and all stage dosent mean I wont buy it if it's rough just means I have a better idea if what I am looking at

good luck with it all

Paul
