Pictures will help.

Depending on what you have, the number could be behind the right front tire on the frame a little behind the center line of the front axle. Later B model.

Or it will be on the left rear frame rail, rear of the spring mount. E model, L model.

Then if you have something really early, it will be on the left front frame rail between the bumper and the front axle such as an early B model 1930's.

Jim

It doesn't cost anything to pay attention.

I would say (for quite shure) NJU.

A different pretty rare WW2 beast.

At least the wheel base size and Timken axles point out on that.

Shure if it's a Mack at all.

NJU's had Mack flat head gassers from the factory.

The red one in the pic is the only survivor I ever heard of of 700 units built.

Cheers, Vlad

Defiantly started out as an NJU. Production contract for 1940 was for 700 units total, of which 692 were Pontoon trailer tractors, 8 were Topographical trailer tractors. November 1941 about half were released to the Brits in Egypt.

The U.S. Army standardized the Autocar as the replacement for the NJU. The balance were transfered to Commonwealth troops.

There was a lot of chat about it on the HCVC site a few years ago. Paul

Wow! I'm not on the HCVC and haven't heard anything about that fact.

Too interesting to learn.

That NJU seemed to me as a cool to have vehicle and I drooled a bit about it.

Although it needed work and I resolved to not get into one more long story having many of at the moment.

There was one more moment. The only NJU is an unique vehicle and I think Russia is not the best place for it.

Such rare vehicles better to stay in area wich has any historical relation to it.
