68-f-model Posted March 4, 2015 Share Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) I am looking at putting 385/65r22.5 (Dayton rims) for steers on my f-model with air assist steering. I am trying not to sink in my soft (swampy) property as bad.Has anyone run this size tire on a mack cabover?If so what were the results?Any input is appreciated.Going for something like this but with spoke wheels. 68-f-model Posted September 14, 2015 Author Share Posted September 14, 2015 My first set of rims didn't have enough off set and hit the tie rod end. Then up popped a set of six with 385/65r22.5 tires on craigslist. It turns out it is 3 pairs each with a different offset. So now I had a choice and I chose the most offset (something like 5.5" from outside of rim to clamp ring) so I could have a "step" of sorts with the tire. Got them mounted up and clears everything by at least 2 inches. I'll have to wait to see how it drives till I get my oil lines replaced.Anyone know of any downside/ dangers with running this set up? Vladislav Posted September 26, 2015 Share Posted September 26, 2015 Looks cool.I keep the idea in my brain to rework 24.5 front rims on my MH to bring them some extra offset. Maybe about 1 inch. The reason is just to improve the look. I have about the same doubts on road handling as you do. So would be glad to know your experience. MH has too short wheelbase as your F model either. TeamsterGrrrl Posted September 27, 2015 Share Posted September 27, 2015 The added width may be hard on the wheel bearings, and if you're going on trhe road make sure it's under 102" width and put on fender extensions as wide as the tires.
