Kevin,

Had mine custom tinted @ Ketone in Huntley. It started out as '66 GM 503.They had to tint it so it would match the inside of my parking brake panel cover (back of cab). I just took my panel (that never sees daylight),cleaned it,polished it,and they matched it from there. NAPA can do the same(at least ours in Woodstock does). Al

Mike,

There was a study done by a leading institution at the time and they determined that a light frost/mint green was the most productive and easiest on the eye color. I painted many a plant interior this color during the 70's and 80's. It was a big deal then and put a lot of bread on my table!!!

sort of like the red map reading lights in early aircraft.............that is now all gone and we use bright LED's.

Mike,

Wondered the same thing too. I liked the "B" green metallic myself, over the original green in my truck. It looks like hell when it beat up,but clean,it does look nice. Thanks for clearing that up,Dan. Wonder why they later went to OD green before the +3 cab came out? Al

I never could figure out why they chose this shade of green for the interior.

To look at the color green it has the least amount of eye strain, this topic came up many years ago in technical school why the drawing boards and the classrooms where light green, and many Postal facilities as well. It could be why Mack used it, don't know for sure, I know of at least two different shades of green on the steel dash R's.

My '72 is painted the light mint green but the MACK Museum said the correct color is Mack paint code 808. My NAPA dealer said they couldn't help. I went to CarQuest and they sent me to a custom paint shop but came up empty. They said if I could bring in a chip they could scan it and try to get a match. I found one little patch under the fire extinguisher braket that had the original green. It looks like olive drab to me.

Sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the BUG!!!

More confusion, I was looking through the build sheet I got from the museum and it shows my interior should be Mack green 811 not 808 as they first said?. I definetly want to paint my interior the olive color. The other issue is my R-700 emblem. it has a part #31MF46. When I googled it came up as R-600 emblem. I hope I can get some answers in Macungie in June. If any body knows anything to help clarify I would be greatly appreciative!

He went to NAPA yesterday the kid who mixes the paint in a wiz at it he matched the color dead on its the earlier robins egg blue not the olive drab he put a sample on the piece he brought in and you couldn't tell the difference.

I like the olive drab color myself. doesn't look bad clean. I think they only painted them olive drab in 71-72??. interesting fact is the mint green color is similar to the 360 Brockway cabs also.....??

Crackerbox Jimmy's too

I was talking to my neighbor who plays around with old cars. He told me there's a NAPA a couple towns over that did some paint for him and turned ouy great. I guess I'll be heading over there this weekend. Now if they could solve the R-700 emblem I would be in great shape...............LOL!
