I ordered a 2016 high rise cxu back in November. The ETA on the truck was for the end of March. Last week I got an email from my sales person stating that there was a fire in the plant where the "sleeper caps" are manufactured and the truck was goin to be delayes. That was all the info they had for me. They didn't know how serious the fire was or the new ETA as of yet just wondering if anyone else has heard this and had any further info on the plant?

I live in the Lehigh Valley, and if a mouse farts at the Mack plant, its all over the print and television news. Haven't heard a peep, but just in case I will put the word out to some fire buddies to see if I missed something, but with all the google searches that have been done, I doubt it.

A more likely scenario would be that whoever makes the sleepers had a fire. I doubt that's Mack, Im sure they would out source that.

Yeah that's what I said. The fire wasn't supposedly @ Mack itself, it was where the sleeper caps are manufactured. Aparent lyrics that's the hold up. No info on how bad the fire was though or how long the delay is supposed to be.

I am at MATS and I stopped by the Mack exhibit. I asked one of the Mack guys who made the sleepers. He thought it was the same company that makes the cab. I mentioned about a fire and he said it was a fire at the HOOD manufacturer. This guy works in the aftermarket parts area and he said Mack was upset because they cannot get hoods for production and field service. So hopefully this answers your question why your CXU is on hold.

In 25 years I have been to several fires in fiberglass or other types of synthetic/composites based structural components manufacturing facilities. The buildings and everything inside them usually dont fare very well unless they are protected by full sprinkler systems.

Usually when we get there, it's fire in the sky and dump water onto any exposures to protect them......If they haven't already vaporized from the radiant heat.

Awesome info guys. I was also in touch with my salesperson this morning. She forwarded me an email from Mack stating that my truck is supposed to be back in assembly rotation in the middle of April. I am assuming that means that it will be in my possession by the end of April at the earliest. The original ETA back in November when ordered was for the end of March. Luckily the buyer for my Kenworth is understanding of this delay, or this could turn into a nightmare quickly. I am a little disappointed the truck will get here a month later then promised, but with the circumstances.....I guess its just one of those things that happen. :unsure:

Ask the salesperson for some chrome goodies as "compensation" :)

Couldn't find anything about a Mack fire doing a news search. I don't know who makes sleepers for Mack so I couldn't search from that direction.

It's a shame that Mack went from a company that made the entire truck from bumper to bumper to what it is today.

Mack has always worked with suppliers for their needs. The B model integral cabs, H model cabs, and G model cabs were produced in Orvillle, Oh for example.

Just FYI, the F-model and WS/WL Cruise-Liner cabs were assembled in-house by Mack Trucks.

The MB was the last cab produced for Mack Trucks by Orrville (vendor code 6124).

I wonder if the L models were built by Orville. If you look at the L model and H model they look identical around the window area. Were the B models built by Chicago cab or Orville. :twothumbsup:

Orrville, OH is also the home of Smucker's, the jelly-makin' folks. Lots of manufacturing going on in that little town over the years.

Maybe she can give you something else for the delay
