I'd be proud to drag that home.Lots of good stuff there for sure, actually the whole thing don't look that bad. One thing in your favor, scrap iron is down.

Yes scrap prices being down certianly helps but it seems my offers on these trucks are based on the old scrap prices. He had a b61 dump that I wanted and now looking at the L model and the funny looking autocar

(There was availability of 510 or 707 overhead valve gassers in the LJ.)

I could not find any engine identification Or engine tags, Whats the easiest way to tell the difference between the twopost-17792-0-02507600-1429713966_thumb.jpost-17792-0-25449000-1429714107_thumb.j

There should be a number stamped into the casting on the piece between the oil fill and the coil shown in the picture. It's right on top of the front of the houseing that contains the shaft driving the distributor and air compressor if it had one...It looks very much like my 707 but I do not know what a 501 looks like for sure. The exhaust manifold is done for...It may very well be STUCK beyond your desire to make it run.

Good luck.

Pretty solid truck wich shure need a lot of work if you want a show look.

With the original gasser, a rare stuff nowaday.

You can find the engine # putting a wire brush on the arrow marked area.

510 and 707 look about the same so check out the #.

Thanks, he's supposed to let me know tomorrow on purchasing the lJT and the B 61. I won't be able to haul them home until after the seasonal load restrictions are off. They are estimating May 1st or 4th.

That Autocar with the suicide doors is neat. Can't say that I've ever seen one. Nice finds.

It is an Autocar model U made from 1936 to 1952. These pair were at the KEMP auction, I quit bidding when the other people had "auction fever".

Glat it's to far away in Michigan..

There was also Autocar Blue Streak engines a 447 c.i. @ 116 h.p. and a 501 c.i. @ 127 h.p. I don't know if the Blue Streaks were Autocar branded Hercules engines or their own product. Paul

  • 1 year later...

Find the chassis number and send it to the Mack Museum with a letter asking for any information they have about the truck. After 4 to 6 weeks you will get a very nice package containing the delivery information on the truck, an owners manual, maintenance information, etc. from the museum.

The service is offered at no cost, but a suitable donation to the museum should be made so we can all continue to enjoy this valuable resource.

Money, sex, and fire; everybody thinks everyone else is getting more than they are!
