Gentleman,

Wrapping up a rebuild on my 53 L model hydrovac brake system. Was wondering if anyone knew the recommended DOT rated fluid for this setup. I have used DOT 3/4 Synthetic in the past and was looking for suggestions as I cannot find recommendations in my literature. Thanks for any info.

I use conventional DOT 3. Before going to far each year, the vehicle gets a quick bleed and inspection all the way around and top off the master cylinder. After four years, the fluid in the system is changed completely.

Some like the synthetic for vehicles that don't get used too often but I find that the DOT 3 with a little maint. works well.

Mack used brake fluid that meets SAE 70R1 and SAE 70R3 ratings. 70R1 is equal to DOT 4 and 70R3 matches to DOT 3 if I am reading the chart correctly.

It doesn't cost anything to pay attention.
