Hi all,

Did some searching online already and can't seem to find an answer yet to our problem. Our company has two E9-500's, a 93 and a 94. The 93 was freshly rebuilt last fall. With both motors we are experiencing oil blowing out the vent tubes...More than what we are accustomed to seeing. The 94 is really puking it out under heavy loads although the freshly rebuilt motor is not doing it as much, it is still doing it more than we think it should though. Any suggestions on a fix for this? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Oh no kidding! Small world! We actually just picked up another superliner this fall, an 86 with a 350 in it. We painted it identical to the blue superliner that you are talking about. Can't tell them apart now. We have three new granites in our line-up but we can't keep them running half the time so we keep rebuilding the older stuff. These old mechanical bulldogs just keep on trucking. Im afraid with all these new emissions standards things are only going to get worse.

Just out of couriuosity have you switched oils recently? I have had some trouble with some of the new oils

Remember if it's got a hood it's no good!

Almost sounds like the Piston Rings are not sealing. How was the rebuild broken in? Paul

Mine was doing that it's only an e6 350. Still does it once in awhile but gotten better it was rebuilt before I bought it and it sat for a couple years I figure the rings unseated and are reseating. Load Em heavy and drive it seems to have helped mine

Blowby really can only come from a few places.

1. Bad/ broken/ worn piston or rings

2.bad valve guides

3.bad turbo center section

4 blown head gasket.( this would be more obvious)

Might try a Leak down test with the valve covers off to see if it's leaking thru the head or thru the piston rings.

Don't mean to scare you but I had excessive blow-by on my thermodyne for several weeks just before a rod bearing wiped out. Seems the hot bearing will boil any moisture in the crankcase and it looks just like blow-by. Ran and pulled fine for several weeks until it spun and started knocking.

I don't know much about the V8 motors, but the E6 motors will get excessive blowby if the rocker shafts are worn. This applies especially to the Dynatard motors. If you lift the Tappet Covers and start the motor, if the shafts are worn you will see oil spraying out everywhere, and this is what causes a lot to go out the breather tube. Just a thought- Kav
