pretty nice seein the production photos. our department is so crooked with kickbacks and bullshit that I think the specs on our new truck even required E One to be in the grille.... and from what ive heard my good tax dollars are getting wasted cause its nothing but a pos

I will admit the old Hahns with the three Mars 888's across the front were bitchin. Is Mars still around?

Yes and like the dumbass propeller lights, they have LED's

TWO STROKES ARE FOR GARDEN TOOLS

Stop trying to follow the lights and it won't make you as dizzy.

it's not the lights.....

That's a really nice nit. My old dept just had their 1972 MACK CF-600 pumper converted to a 3200 gal. tanker with a slight stretch, they designed it them selves. Looks askew to my eye. Paul

You can blame NFPA for that one as well. 1901 has such strict power load requirements for the electrical system that the builders are basically forced to go to LED's to keep the loads down. Same reason many motorized lights are no longer used.

Money, sex, and fire; everybody thinks everyone else is getting more than they are!

I actually like LED's from a maintenance and amp draw standpoint. However they just dont look right in a mars light. You can still get halogen lamps in them though.

May 20, 2015. Work progresses. Most of the major cab work is done. For you Fire Department Spec-Writing guys, note the back of the cab- we spec'd a Rhino-Liner type material to be sprayed on. No one ever sees the back of the cab, so why paint it, and why waste money on diamondplate? Some neighbors of ours did it three years ago on their new pumper and they love it, so we stole borrowed the idea. The discharge valves and foam system is being installed on/around the pump. The Body Plant is 75% done cutting the body panels, and assembly is scheduled to begin on Tuesday 5/26.

Very nice. Rhino Liner! What a great idea.

The power draw on new vehicles is way beyond our systems now. You're going to see 24 and 36 volt systems in a few years to keep up with lighting, computer controls, satellite systems, entertainment /com systems and all the new drive by wire controls. Paul

The front bumper (which will have a 100' trash line/car fire line) will also be coated with the material. They will also color the liquid to the same color as your paint if you want....for a substantial upcharge.......I cannot remember for the life of me if we opted to color it or keep it black though.

Updated photos 5/26/2015: The chassis is essentially complete and has been moved over to the body fabrication facility. Note that the front bumper has been coated with the rhino-liner like spray on material, in black. It looks pretty good, I hope the stuff is as tough as they say it is.

UPDATE 6/16/2015: The majority of the chassis is complete. Some of the valves and fittings have been installed onto the pump. The chassis has been moved over into the body plant. The framework of the body has been assembled, and will be dropped onto the chassis very soon. Final Inspection is tentatively scheduled for July 22/23. Delivery early August. Was there any discussion about compartment doors? Traditional swing out vs. roll up like a soda truck

squeezing 450HP out of an engine originally designed to be 8.3 liters scares me. But I guess Cummins knows what they are doing.

I concur. I wanted to go for the ISX instead of the ISL but the upcharge would have put us way over budget.

Generally the theory is that most fire apparatus will be a relatively low mileage application that will not trash an engine that is "reaching" for the HP they are tuning it to. In other words a fire truck will probably get less than 150K miles over it's lifetime and even a way over tuned diesel should last that long. We'll see.

I still subscribe to the old theory of greater displacement equals greater power.

I keep telling my neighbor kid this same thing every time he's out in the garage screwing off with his rice burner

Looks great! Going by the pictures it looks like they build a nice truck.....is this the first one you guys have bought from them?

Yes, this is our first purchase from this manufacturer.

Body is extruded aluminum.

Body is extruded aluminum.

It'll last for longer the it will be needed. Good choice!
