As a new old Mack owner I was wondering what to do for insurance. Do you guys have full coverage or just liability? How do you determine the value of the truck for insurance? Is there a company that specializes in antique trucks? How expensive can I expect insurance to be on a 1948 fire truck with historical plates? Thanks

I too have my Mack, albeit not an "antique", insured thru State Farm. I never had my truck appraised. I hear others talk about Haggerty Insurance.

Hmmm, Smithville...did you happen to buy the Mack wrecker from Massillon a few years ago? I heard it went west toward Wooster.

Thanks, my auto insurance agent wasn't much help. He either doesn't know what to do with an antique or isn't interested in messing with it. I haven't pushed the issue real hard yet.

I have a fire truck, not a wrecker. It originally came from a fire station in Bethlehem PA., was sold to a Shriner club in Cleveland for a parade vehicle, sat behind a club members barn in Orrville for a few years, then sold to my father in Wooster where it sat in his shop for the past 15 years. My goal is to have it back on the road by next summer which seems probable based on what I've gotten done so far.

Call my agent in Canton. Rachael Chandler Head

(330) 477-8529 4422 22nd St Nw

Canton, OH

Tell them Larry Kortkamp told you to call about insurance on a historical truck. This is not my first referral about this. Have a friend in Findley, Ohio that called her because his local SF agent wouldn't deal with him.

I have full coverage on my trucks thru State Farm also.. No problems as my agent also does a lot of commercial and farm vehicle work. My 55 Ford F-600 only has a declared value of $5000 and it went thru on pictures only, BUT my 1949 Diamond T 201 pick up has a declared value of $65,000 and that took a letter from an approved appraiser as well as the pictures.

A lot of the guys pulling a trailer, with other equipment on them, have gone to Gulfway in Hudson FL as they will insure the trailer also.

Do a search on here as this topic has been hashed out before..

I've got Gulfway myself, they specialize in antique vehicles, race cars, and what-not.
