Some great pics there. Doesn't seem like I've seen many old heavy haulers using jeeps. Seems like they hauled whatever they could fit or pull on five axles. Is that dozer one of those that has the winch on the side that is used as a crane?

No pipe layer, it was for the New England Thruway so probably a scraper or side dump.

Load with a twin engine Allis Chalmer Dozer. This is the last of 2 loaded for delivery to the dealer. Longest wheel base on a B tractor I've seen too.

that first cat tractor looks as if it might be the rear of a quad 9, as i didnt see any brackets for a winch or pipe boom.

Could be, they probably used them on the N.E.T.W. construction.

That sub is something different would have being a huge load I would have thought back in its day

Paul

Gutted of engines, electric motors, batteries, fuel, general equipment and weapons probably around 175,000 pounds on 3 trailers so about 58,000 pounds per trailer. In a clear photo the primary drive sprocket looks to be about 11 tooth, probably a drive ratio of about 8 to 1 all with 50 H.P. Paul

Very cool. How'd they capture the sub?

Fun is what they fine you for!

The sub ran aground near Scapa Flow and was scuttled. The British raised it took its technology and it went on to NYC to raise money for the war effort. It was later sunk as a break water for a cross Long Island Sound ferry from Oyster Bay N.Y. to Stanford Conn. Paul

How'd they ever manage to go downhill with that rig.... ??? Nerves of steel I say.

Is there anything you don't know about 41Chevy? You must remember everything you read and read a LOT. Walking encyclopedia! :notworthy:

Grew up with all old vehicles and equipment with a family that fixed or made what was needed. All my equipment is old most all from pre WWII to the 60's.You need to know what available to keep it all going.

Made a good side business buying and selling vintage auto parts and hardware. I bought obsolete stock from tons of auto parts stores, Body supply stores, old auto and truck dealerships and even old school hardware stores. So a good knowledge of whats what is needed. I even at one point had a Caddy dealer and a Chevy dealer buying NOS body panels and trim parts from me.

and yes I've always read a lot. I'd rather sit with a book, magazine or crawling around old stuff then go hang out ( a general dislike of most social events probably helps too), plus blessed or cursed with a photographic memory. Great for school and work, bad for general life.

Mainly it's sad to have acquired all this knowledge over the years and not share it if someone needs the info.

He's the Cliff Claven of BMT

Thanks Norm. :)

Out with the shovel Swishy and start digging
If anyone has ever dug a track tractor or dozer out with just a shovel you will have a idea on how long this takes, dont ask how I know this these blokes that reckon they can dig a truck out in a few hours must have only had one axle group sunk or they are a lot fitter than I have ever been LOL
