I straight piped my truck a few months ago and now I hear they passed a law banning it. I've been looking at internal baffles such as these. http://www.truckpipestore.com/mobile/5-x-60-internal-baffle-tube

Wondering if these quiet the truck at all? Has anyone used them before?

Thanks

Eric

I'm pretty sure that every state has a statue that denotes that it is illegal to remove or modify any exhaust. It is just if your local Barney gets upset about it or not.

Ran straight pipes on my CX for nearly 10 years... In hindsight I'm surprised I never got bothered all that time... I hear that truck running around now and it sounds awfully obnoxious to me lol... Maybe I'm just getting older...

Just curious as I have 4.5" dual stacks I just put on to replace the original 4" single stack. I figured if once I got it on the road it was to loud I will just drop in a set of insert mufflers. I assume that those would meet the requirements?

was pulled over in northeast Michigan hauling corn with the neighbors Western Star that was straight pipe but he didn't say nothing about there being a law he said it was just too loud and it needed to be toned down. It was pretty loud.

Do you have a muffler on the truck now? I would think 2 stacks of larger diameter would tone it down compared to a single 4 inch pipe. seems like when I was a kid almost every E6 Mack had a single 4 inch straight pipe on it

No, I don't have any mufflers on it. It had just a straight stack on it when I got it. Just sitting in the yard idling it is about the same if not quieter than my GMC's 8.2 diesel that has a huge muffler and an under the box exhaust exit.

Once I get it on the road (a bit of work to do on it first) I'll find out how loud the dual larger stacks are.

  • 1 month later...

So I bought the quiet pipe from Iowa 80 that Dogg rescue recommended and now I'm getting an obnoxious whistle at full throttle. I have to take the exhaust apart again and figure it out but, other than that the truck sounds much better and is more enjoyable to drive. Thanks guys!
