I have a line on a mack V8 its in a 70s vintage R700 guy says he wants $2500 for it in running condition says I can her it run and check it out before buying good or bad deal? I think its an 865 has the stamped steel valve covers I guess it was a roll over so its been sitting for a while only concern I have is how long did it run when the truck was on its side.

I would see it run, look at the oil pressure when both hot and on start up. After shut down when hot pull the dip stick and see if there is any metallic particles in it. It's a crap shot though. IMO

Kind of hard to tell with out pulling a rocker cover on the high side of the roll over and drain plug to look for metal or galling.

Im pretty sure I will buy it depending on how it runs and sounds Im selling off the set of tires and other parts I don't really need from my parts truck hoping to make enough to pick it up without going into the bank account for the money.
