First time I ever saw the Oak in the frame rails and not painted. Was always interested as to why Sterling did that. I learned it would allow more flex in the rails more the a double channel steel frame in log hauling. Paul

Sterlings last was in 1953, MACK after the FJ I think and a few Cook Brothers Peterbilt conversions in the late 40's

Chain drive was favored for off road work because of added ground clearance.

Challenge-Cook (mixers) starting in 1946t o make chain drive conversion kits for single axle Ford, I.H, Chevies, GMC Dodge and others up until 1964.
