Nice truck! I have one just like it, just not as pretty. I was wondering if you could tell me the numbers or any info on the distributor vacuum advance. Mine is rusted out, and I can't find one to fit it. If I had the numbers on it and make, I might do better. Thanks, Steelman

I don't think for the miles and use that the truck will get there will be any worry about the fuel and lack of lead. More of a concern will be what the ethanol will do to the fuel pump diaphragm and carb gaskets Might want to look into adding some stabilizer or filling with real gas if available in your area.

I have seen that style of ashtray in some Mack factory photos so your are good to go there. E models also had an ashtray that could be attached to the drivers door just below the window reveal close the dash.

The ethanol is definitely a problem with the old gas engines. In addition to what J Hancock mentioned it will free up debris in the tank and also cleanses the valve train causing valves to stick. I have found the non ethanol gas with some Marvel Mystery Oil works wonders.

When I first got the FWD I called Waukesha to see if I should be putting lead additive in. Talked to a very knowledgeable engineer for quite a while. Told me I didn't need lead additive, the valve seats were hardened. His exact words were "dump the cheapest shit 87 octane in there that you can find."

But that's the Wauky. You should do some research about your Mack. Maybe Yarnell knows???

And to echo everyone else's statements- Gasoline with ethanol is fucking evil if you allow it to sit around. The ethanol ate the diaphragm in my mechanical fuel pump- a pretty rare Delco-Remy, and I couldn't find a replacement- so we had no choice and installed an electric pump. Anytime I put ethanol fuel in, I ALWAYS add Ethanol-Formulated STA-BIL (the orange shit, not the red shit....) and I never ever allow it to sit around more than a month or more. I always plan accordingly and don't add more than I think I will burn.

Also, check around your area for ethanol-free gas. Look on www.pure-gas.com It's more expensive of course but worth it if they are located close by. I do have one place about 15 miles from here, I usually will get about 10 gallons at the end of the summer for the winter storage season- I light her off and run it for 45 minutes every 2-3 weeks.

And never use AvGas like some morons do- the high octane will burn hotter and damage antique engines.

They sell straight unleaded here,and that's what I use in the old tractors,my lawnmower(on the very rare occasions that it's not broken and I actually try to mow).That's what I put in the Mack and I put some lead in to just to be safe

I would use Sta-bil Marine "just in case" regardless if it has or has no ethanol. All of today's gasoline is crappy. Personally I only use "branded" gasoline and stay away from "generic" brands. Yes they may pull from the same fuel terminal but the additives and additive treat rate are not the same between brands.

You should have no problems with the lead substitute and pure unleaded when you get ready to park it for the season maybe some sta-bill but if you plan on running it I wouldn't worry about it
