Mack thermostat part number

68-f-model

Recommended Posts

Replacing the water pump on my f model with a 237 . I pull the thermostat and head to Napa and all I get are blank stares back when they try looking it up in the books. There are no numbers on my old one to compare to. Can any of you guys recall what the part number I need is?

Also possibly a part number for this hose as I am pretty sure the universal hose that was on it isn't right.

Don't have an OEM number for the hose.

Hose looks universal and NAPA should be able to help you. They may have to order from their warehouse if both ends aren't the same diameter.

Horrors... they might have to look in their hose and belt catalog.

I have a Mack thermostat part #215 SB 164 AP3 in the box. It looks like the NAPA one pictured. I got it from Watt's for a 673 B Model and then found out my truck doesn't have a thermostat, just shutters. I can't find the invoice but will sell it cheap.

Is there a particular temp that these engines "like" to run at?  It's cooling system re-fresh time for me on a Canadian 235 and I want to do the thermostat while im in there.  It's in a tow truck that doesn't tow max gvw loads and short trips more then long trips so im thinking a 170 or 180 degree stat

Diesels like a little heat.  Cold diesels tend to build up crud.  I think mine was a 170° thermostat, but the shutters controlled the heat from there to...I want to say...190°?  I can't remember exactly.  There are people on here that will remember those numbers in detail.

I HAVE seen trucks with the shutters deactivated run a 180 or even 185° thermostat with no reported issues.  Again, there are real pros on here that can guide you way better than I can!
