New “Gun Violence Tax” In Seattle Washington

Gun Owners of America Alert

If you wish to purchase a gun or ammunition in Seattle, prepare to pay more. Recently the city council passed a $25 tax on gun sales and .05 tax per round of ammunition purchased. They also passed an ordinance requiring that all lost guns must be reported.

“Every day, the general public pays the enormous cost of gun violence,” said Council President Tim Burgess moments after the vote. “Gun violence is a public health crisis in our city and our nation. City government can and must pursue innovative gun safety measures that save lives and save money. As it has in other areas of policy, Seattle can lead the way in local solutions.

“A gun violence tax will give us revenue to provide broad-based benefits through gun violence prevention programs. Mandatory reporting of purchases of weapons and ammunition provides the police information critical to investigations. I’m grateful for my colleagues’ full support for both of these measures.”

Gun store owners in the city are planning to sue the city council, and they are examining the numbers proposed by this tax closely, with the general feeling the numbers have been greatly inflated. While legislation is being examined by the courts, the law will go into effect. There are stores seeking to move outside of city limits, in order to be able to stay in business.

I thought legally (at least at the state level not federally) selling dope was supposed to fix all Washington and colorados budget deficiencies?

The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by the people who vote for a living.

The government can only "give" someone what they first take from another.

would any body like a liberal democratic county? our state has one to give away! the rest of the state would be happy to see King County leave the evergreen state ..........oops I met the once green state.
