Just bought it last week. 1951 45A, 330 cu in 6 cylinder gas with the dual ignition system. (Currently only running one set of plugs) The truck has 20,338 original miles. It's a pumper truck. The previous owner ordered the Mack museum info for it, It went to the Chicago Heights Fire dept when new. The museum packet has some neat pictures of the truck new. It still has all its fire equipment. Ladders, hoses, 500 gal water tank, centrifugal pump, Motorola radio system from 1955. It runs like a top. Only issue right now is the brake pedal goes to the floor. Previous owner had brake work done at the shop where the truck was for sale, won't mention any names but guess they couldn't get it right? Sorry for the grainy backed in barn pic but it was one of the few that were small enough to upload here. This isn't my first fire truck. I used to own a 1986 Peter Pirsch and sons 110' skytop ladder truck. Yours with a closed cab is probably considerably rarer. Please don't cut it up.Brake parts are readily available and not all that expensive. If there are no obvious leaks I would check the booster to see if it has an internal leak. The master cylinder is available on Amazon. yarnall Posted September 8, 2015 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Welcome to the forum. That is a neat truck. You probably already know they only made A models for 4 years. They only built 44 45A's according to Harvey Eckart's book. Your truck is very rare. It would be a shame to remove the fire body. As for the brakes, it depends when they were done, they could have gone bad already. I have a 405A that I did the whole brake system 9 years ago and it doesn't work right now again. Good luck. yarnall Posted September 14, 2015 Share Posted September 14, 2015 It would be a shame to hot-rod it, but it's your truck. I paid $6000 for my 405A. It is the second of 68 made. It is a very nice truck. It did need brake work and a bell, but otherwise it was a nice original truck with original gold leaf. It will be hard to get $15000 out of yours. Good luck.
