Couldn't a spring shop (Huntington brake and Spring?) redo your factory spring packs down to 44's? Either by removing the correct leaves or replacing the spring pack with a lighter set?

58000 spring pack is 13 leaves, the 44000 is 10 leaves I see no reason why 3 leaves could not be removed to bring the weight down and improve the ride some. Question is which leaves do you remove? Paul

My thoughts exactly, although they would have to remove more than three i would think, the 58 leaves are thicker and wider than the 44,could be done if they could figure out the weight rating,im thinking it would have to be certified to be legal right.

Would't it matter if he going to load heavy alot of the time or just be a light load now and then? terry

I added a 20000 drop axle this past winter for permit reasons so that would not be a issue, the problem now is ridding empty on 58k,kicking my ass for nothing on these crap roads we have around here..

I don't think safety is an issue, why would it be,heck they make a three leaf 44000 camel back and those springs are only four inches wide,I know a lot of people in down state NY would like to do this since so many are adding drop axles to dumps with 58000 rears to save there overweight permits but yes it would defiantly have to be legal if even possible.

ohh trust me, I don't think i would be unsafe by any means. All I am saying is that if the truck was in an accident, your fault or not, the truck police could impound it and find you at fault because they would say the truck shouldn't have been on the road and therefore you are at fault. Its like changing out self adjusting slacks for manual ones. Are the manual ones better and offer more control over the adjustment of your brakes? Yea, but it is illegal. Like I said before, I don't believe you can change the gvw of a truck and if you can, I wouldn't want to assume taking 1, 2,or 3 leafs out of your pack would make it sufficient for 44,000 lbs. At least by changing the tandem out you are installing a "system" engineered for 44k therefore in a way covering your ass
