I am not aware of any place that have one kit with everything you might need. After a bunch of phone calls, parts could be sourced to do a rebuild on your gasser depending on what you find inside the motor.

If you are just going to use it in your local area, the gas motor may work for you. If you think you want to drive from VA to Macungie, PA for the truck show, you would probably want to do an upgrade of some sort

Hi Greg.

Thanks for your response. The engine in the b 42 runs as it is. I heard it run in the truck for about 2 minutes.

I'll run a compression test and see what the bearings look like and how much sludge might be in it.

It will be lucky to see 500 miles a year when it's finished.

I would like to locate the external stuff, water pump, carb kit, fuel pump or diaphragm. Things of that sort.

No problem. Others might know better on the water pump, fuel pump and carb but if you can't fine them as replacements there are lots of specialists out there who can make that stuff like new as well...Let Google be your friend and look at the industry magazines like Double Clutch or maybe Vintage Truck for vendors. Ask for help here when you get stuck. I'm a rookie compared to many of the guys on here. I know many swear that the local "good" parts guy can get some of this stuff but I have no luck in Mass...blank stares and "Duh what? responses do more to piss me off than encourage me to go back to them again...That said they are not all equal so try your luck and your patience as the case may be.

When my 707C was rebuilt, I had good luck with Olsons Gaskets in Port Orchard, Washington. No cheap but very good products.

I would get the fuel and water pump rebuilt. Check on the Mack Museum web site as they have a list of parts/service providers for these things.

I'm looking forward to picking brains of the fellows on here. No one knows ALL the answers, but ALL of us know some of the answers. Put them all together and you get a wealth of knowledge.

As far as chain parts stores go, there have been many times I went behind the counter of my local one and looked up or matched up what I needed for myself.

I went to a tractor dealer parts department to find a simple fuel shut off petcock. I showed it to the man behind the counter and he immediately said "I can't help you with that."

To find an old timer at a parts store is a blessing. They are used to looking in the books and digging a little deeper to find what you need.

I just rebuilt an EN377 for an A40, yours is very doable. First start looking Ebay there is a lot of NOS parts for it. I used a guy out of New Haven named Pete Nizen from Nizen machine, he found me .020 rings, .020 rods, and .010 mains. He also did a valve job for me on it. I would be lying if I said it was cheap, the rings are made out of a special steel called unobtanium. The head gasket kit is readily available on Ebay. It can be done.

By the way, Nizen machine does the engine work for Matt Pfahl, and is a very nice guy. There is a carburetor shop I used in Norwood MA called universal auto that rebuilt my carburetor in 2 weeks for $150 bucks. Never even flinched at it, said it is a very common one. Mack was specific on the engine parts, but the carbs had different applications. By the way, what motor do you have in that? The EN 401 is the same as my motor more or less just with a different bore.

Where in VA are you?

Automotive Manufacturers in Richmond is an excellent re-builder for water pumps, electrical accessories, and brake/clutch re-lining. 2400 N Lombardy St

Richmond, VA 23220, 804-321-6861. White Post restorations near Winchester will sleeve and re-build the wheel cylinders which gives you a life time warranty on them.
While a re-build kit is not available for your engine individual parts will probably not be that difficult to find. Push comes to shove pull it down, measure the part or get a PN and start looking. I am finishing up the re-build of a 1925 AB engine and I have been able to find what I needed with a little creativity. I had valves, valve springs, and keepers made for example.
