Hey all, I have a 1994 ch 613 with 40k Mack top loaders, 4.17 ratio according to vin. Rear axle throwing oil out of pinon seal, shaft is loose, maybe 1/8 to 3/16 movement. Wanting to get a manual off e bay, but need to know which book to order. How do you ID which axles I have? Apparently there has been some issues as new rear drive shaft and u joints and yolk. It was used as an in plant tractor so who knows how well maintained.

Thanks, Andy.

The info is stamped on the front of Mack rears, but sometimes can be difficult to read. Its stamped on the front right/passenger side of the rear. Its the flat spot next to the pinion, middle to lower part of flat spot. Use a putty knife, wire brush and some brake clean.

The metal tag is a rebuild tag. The tag means something to the rebuilder and nothing to Mack. I think the casting number is the housing part number.

The stamped info on older rears like yours look like pencil dots. So instead of a solid 6, its a 6 made of dots, like pencil dots. They can be hard to read. Normally rebuilders put their metal tags over the original stamped numbers.

It maybe easier to do what theakerstwo said, call the dealer with truck info and ask.

But like he said its probably a 92 or 93 series.

You will need to look for a 11KH54xx or 11KH55xx number which would give more information on the carrier series. 64KH5104 is the carrier housing number and 19QF4414 is the axle/banjo housing P/N.

The 4.17 ratio is a CRD92/93 ratio. If oil is thrown out of the Pinion seal then probably the carrier seal has gone bad (easily replaceable). If you are seeing 1/8" to 3/16" end-play most probably one of the front two bearings (#1 or #2) has gone bad or going bad. Remove the side Aluminum Bevel Compartment cover on the carrier and check the backlash on the gears. It should measure between 0.006"-0.018". Also look for metal at the big magnet in the Aluminum cover. Check the condition of the bevel gears.
