My buddy gave me a set of stainless half fenders and I'm gonna mount them on my Super. It has 38k rears on Camel back. I've never had a load on it and was curious what kind of gap you guys would recommend between the fenders and the tires. Its currently set up with lo-pro 24.5's. I just don't know how much I should expect that suspension to drop..... any suggestions?

Fun is what they fine you for!

My name is Bob Buckman sir,. . . and I hate truckers.

When I put half fenders on my R model with camel back I jacked up the front drive to the stops and set them up that way just so the tires wouldn't touch.

same here . You will find that when doing this the fenders will sit higher off the top of the tires than say a truck with air ride. Also be careful with the clearance for the trailer bottom if you have a standard height 5th wheel.

here is a pic of how high mine are mounted.(click on it to make it larger)

How about when one side of a front rear axle is up and the other down?

The edge of the outer tyre might get higher than.

Also consider giving another inch or two in case you put 11 R's on it. Mine are about an inch past the stops for suspension travel to clear mud and rocks

All great points that I have considered. I can fit a 4x4 (3.5x3.5) between the stop and the axle housing.... But they do look kinda high... PLUS like state if I ever went to tall rubber I'd be in trouble again....

I'm not real wild about how high they're going to need mounted. Lmackattack thanks for pic... any others???

here are a few more pics with trailers. The van trailer was empty

you can see the pic with the low boy the front drives are up on the pavement and the rears are dropped down on the gravel.

My fenders are the same style.

Would a 4x4 (3.5) fit between tire and fender without a load?

You're running tall rubber?

Have you had any interference with the trailer?

Depends on what you're going to do with the truck. You have to be very careful (however you mount them) if you'll be going in some rough places.

Mount them high enough to miss the tires, the trailer can get into them. Mount them low enough to miss the trailer, the tires can get into them.

They look good and are great for keeping mud off the truck but you have to be really careful to not tear them up.

A taller 5th wheel will help.

The 5th wheel is a standard height Fontaine that I modified with a bar to pull frameless dump trailers. I never did get around to putting a high mount on so when I pull a Van trailer it is way too close for comfort and if I went thru some twists im sure it would make contact with the fender. If I recall a soda pop can is about the distance between fender and tire with no load on the truck. so yes a 4x4 block will fit between tire and fender. I think the springs squat down about 2" with a good load on it (stock 34K springs) On the truck is low pro 24.5 tires. the size is the same height as a 11R22.5. I never had interference with lowboy, flatbed or dump trailers. I only pulled a van trailer a few times and it was on road only mostly highway but they way I set the fenders up was to be high because the truck was being used for mostly On/off road use. At work im driving a Pete 387 and it has air ride. the fenders sit very close to the tires ....maybe 3.5" off the top of the tires and they dont rub but the axles dont move nearly as much as the Mack does. If I drop the air on the rears i can get 1 finger between the tires and the fender.

all the R models I drove with springs were set up for real off road work. they all had fenders mounted higher than what was seen on air ride trucks.
