I have some confusion over the short list names given to certain years and models.....I have an E7 V mac being the 93 454 hp now the guys at Mack in Australia call it just the Vmac series 1 which I understand though looking for parts online it is also referred to as a PLN? what is a PLN an acronym for and what is a

E Tech

CCR

ASET

supposedly all E7 models or kits or what?

PLN - pump line nozzle (fuel injection pump with lines connecting the pump to the injectors). Typical fuel injection system used on most early engines except Detroit Diesel which used unit injectors (UI).

89-98 E7 PLN (VMAC 1-2)

98-02 E7 E-tech EUP (VMAC 3)

02-07 E7 ASET EUP egr AC/AI (VMAC 4)

07-08 MP7 egr no DPF (VMAC 5)

08-10 MP7 MP8 egr plus DPF

10-present MP7 MP8 EGR DPF SCR

The above years of production are not build dates but emissions standards the engines were built to. Example being 2010 emissions were not in production till 2011.

The E-7 engine came in a mechanical inj. pump version and in electronic versions: VMAC1 and VMAC2. The engine evolved into a unit pump type engine and became the ETECH engine, The injectors had a fuel return line for excessive fuel that wasn't used but with tighter emissions it required a more precise fuel delivery, thats where the CCR injectos/EUP's came in--still on the ETECH engine. Eventually the emissions became even stricter and the ETECH evolved into the ASET series engines-same design but now with egr. There are 2 type aset engines, the AI and the AC. The AC engines have an egr valve, cooler and other goodies-designed mostly for highway. The AI has a special ground camshaft that allows exh. fumes from combustion to fall back into the cylinder, this engine was mainly designed for work/off road. There is a lot more to this but that is about the jest of it.

Good and short explanation, I often wondered what all the prefixes meant.

Thanks guys I really appreciate this info as I now have an understanding of what they are talking about.

Also does this mean both VMAC1-2 are interchangeable?

No, VMAC1 had 2 modules or ECU's-a Bosch fuel management ecu and a vehicle ECU. VMAC 2 went to a single ECU,. There was a time when there was a kit available to switch VMAC 1 to VMAC2 using the VMAC2 ECU and a harness adapter but I'm not sure if that is available any more.
