Looking for opinions on doing a cab replacement. Engine was rebuilt 2 years age by dealer. Cab has more and more rust showing up. Wondering if I should replace cab or just update to a newer truck. Not quite sold on a DPF and/or EGR engine. Happy with the simple E7 350. Found a cab assembly for around $4500. Thinking of doing this myself. Thoughts?

Go for the cab replacement. Seems you like this truck enough to keep it. With the recent engine, you'll be money ahead with a simple, reliable truck. And, you can still run paper logs.
