to be more specific, that is the arm used by a power tarping system to cover and uncover the load.

there is one on each side of the body, and springs on the bottom of the arm where the pivot point is on the body.

then there is an electric motor on the cab shield to wind or unwind the tarp.

when you are up to your armpits in alligators,

it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp..

I used mine all the time for the idiots that followed too close and tried to blame me for a broken windshield on their vehicles,just to find out I had sand on. The tarp satisfies the law even though most of the "high speed aggregate projectiles" that hit said windshields , are in the tread of your DOT approved tires. Before they were a must, the use of mine saved me a bunch of B.S. by Johnny Law. One of the best investments in equipment I ever made. Oh and mine was the hand cranked version with the spring loaded arms. Good to stick your head out of the cab every now and then,as situations can change!! Al
