Great article. Does anyone know what a "life gun kit" is?

The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by the people who vote for a living.

The government can only "give" someone what they first take from another.

I believe that a "life gun" was a rescue rope that was fired by rifle looking projector with a firing cartridge. The purpose was to fire a coiled rope across a river or

wherever it was needed. When I started my fire career one of our ladder trucks carried one but like a lot of the old equipment we had it was just there and I never

saw it used in training or in an emergency.

^^^ this^^^

we used to have one in the rescue truck in case a large ship wrecked on the jetties at the entrance to the river.

you would fire the coiled rope from the "gun" from the bluff near the inlet and aim over the ship. then they would use the rope to haul a larger cable out and tie it off to the highest point on the ship. then use a bosun's chair to shuttle the crew from the ship to shore.

when you are up to your armpits in alligators,

it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp..
