The problem with that is you gotta come back down wth the zipper.

I dont' know where the spaghetti came from. Colorful though ain't it?

Did you look into sand blasting?

I'm gOing to send it out to have the cracks and crevices blasted.

I got an estimate to have done without me removing any paint myself, just to do the tank would have been $1800.

The cab will be a different story though. It will be worth almost any price to get EVERYTHING stripped off.

Check with Soda Blasting of VA. They are out of Louisa and they specialize in coming to you to do the job. Despite the name they will use any media you want to do the job.

If the guards were supposed to stay on they'd be welded on.

It seems not easy to weld a steel guard to alu grinder body. I hate working unprotected but if I try grab a grinder I always find all of them with protectors ruined. Looks like my guys play Russian rullette...

Did you consider using a chemical stripper?

I'm in the process of doing that now. I had to at least try to cut some of the layers down to make sanding/grinding a little easier. Once i get it down some it will come off much easier.

In the past, after using chemical stripper and scraping the loose layers off and a good rinsing with lacquer thinner I always sand the metal with 80 grit on a D.A. sander.

I have used oven cleaner, like easy-off, to strip paint off of boats and other machinery.  Works extremely well.  Just keep a water hose nearby to rinse occasionally and to spray your body parts if you get it on you.  You MUST wear safety glasses and rubber gloves!!!  Any caustic solution will remove most paints (think lye), that is what oven cleaner is.  It actually worked much better than the so called paint strippers except aircraft stripper.
