Got the results from the MRI on my knee. Sprained knee joint, torn miniscus, hematoma under knee cap ,,   and arthritis.   Going in tomorrow for a cortosone shot,,and to drain the blood out,,then get fitted for a knee brace.  No double clutching for awhile longer sounds like.

Dang mike.......they got near the whole medical dictionary on that prognosis......

Hope you get healed up quick.

Buddy I race with got a new left knee back in '06.   He joked that if it didn't work well that I would have to come up with a hand clutch set up for his car.

Hmm, what about a hand air clutch?  Put a motorcycle grip with a handle.   Hmmm......we'll get you trucking before you know it.

Get well and follow the orders! At least you didn't get a cane like my wife did.   Paul

I built a air assist clutch for my mack a few years back and it is a life saver for my bad knee.I adjust the air pressure to were it almost pushes the clutch down but needs my foot pressure to hit the clutch brake.

How hard was that to rig up ?

The bus garage where I worked soon after high school has some pusher school buses with a full air clutch. Just another tredle valve and a brake chamber on the clutch push rod.. Worked good after you got used to it.. Just DO NOT park it in gear!!!!! No clutch til you built up air!!

That was simple.I anchored a 3" air cylinder with push pull of about 10" to the left side of the block. With a small chain it pulls the clutch lever which I had to extend the lever about 3" and drill a hole in it for the chain.I mounted a push button air valve on side of shift stick and there is room for it if you use a round ball knob. The valve is the one that a RTO6613 trans used for the pto style clutch brake.Air to it and from it to a three way pilot valve that airs up the cyl.I put a air regulator in the supply to the pilot valve so you can adjust how ever.I have mine to were it will almost pull the clutch but needs my foot on the clutch to push all the ay down. And if I am milling asphalt I just get the clutch down and with my finder just hold air on the clutch and let my foot up to rest.If you try this tell me and I will post some nunbers with photos. If it put one on my other truck and don't think it will work and the stick as well cause it uses the mack shifter know instead of the up/down shift valve and round know. You have to put some pressure on the clutch before you air it up or other wise it could double up the clutch cable and hurt it.

Nobody likes adding weight, but an axle retarder is an interesting piece.  Easy to set up on a trailer rather than on a dump.

Mike i had same problem as you with knee being bone on bone and arthritis. I did get a total knee replacement 5 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did I put it off for over 20 years. It got so bad I would drag my left leg like a pirate. Cortisone only works so many times. I have no problems with my knee now. Thei r was not as much pain as everyone told me there would be. Physical therapy was pretty intense but it worked out for the best. I had 2 women Physical Therapists they were like drill instructors in boot camp. Good Luck Joe D.
