Well in the dead of winter I tried to start the B model-not even a grunt.  Truck is 12 v, 4 @ 1200 CCA.  But they are 10 years old!  everyone tells me I'm kidding myself.  In any case I took two of them out and charged them about 6 hrs-getting 12.2 v reading.  The two on the other side were reading around 12.18 so I took a shot, brought the Ranger in the barn and hooked it up to that side.  No luck- Headlights are bright, internal buzzer and low air red light bright but no turnover-just a "grunt".  I have had intermittent problems in past with the starter not engaging but before I screw around with that opinions if I in fact 4 12 V at a little over 12 V are not enough?

Seems tome 4800 CCA's even at 12V should be more than enough but I guess not?  Or I'm back to starter issue.??

Load test each battery individually to see if you have one bad batt the old saying is one bad apple ruins the whole basket same with batts New starters are cheap no rebuilt any more the labor to put in $$$$$$$$$$$$.00 ........................Don't you have connections  put a fleet # on it S-Bla-BLA-BLA.

My .02 is that you need to buy some batteries.  I have had batteries that will show 12+ volts and will light a bulb but no longer have the power to do anything else.  After 10 years, you got your moneys worth.

At some point you may still need to drop the starter out but either way, you need batteries.

It doesn't cost anything to pay attention.

I got 10 yrs out of the last set for my truck.  They just started to get slow sounding so I put 2 new ones(I used to run 4).  Don't need 4 12v batteries to start a 673.  Even the 237 I just put in rolls over nicely with only 2 batteries.  I'm thinking they are almost 5 yrs old now?  Still going strong.  Didn't charge them up over winter either.

so Larry-what do you have for CCA?  I'm thinking when  guys I bought the truck from converted from 4 -6V with the SP switch, they "filled the battery boxes" with 4 -12 V.  I don't ever remember buying trucks with a total of 4800 CCA.-and that includes tractors that had to have a hot wire for a tailgate

I can set you up with my battery dealer, good service, and quality product. He sometimes has used batteries. I think you have my phone #.

Will do Mike.

I'll have to look.  Just a std group 31 truck battery,  Interstate brand.  Buddy got me a deal on them back then.

When I converted mine from S/P, I too put 4-12v batteries in it thinking I would need them.  Not.  I left them for the 10 yrs.  It likely took 10 yrs to work all four down to the point it sounded weak and needed replaced.  Since mine is always in a garage I don't worry that it won't start.

Well guys-thx for all the good advice. Picked up two new 1050 CCA (@32) from Fleet Pride (they are made by Exide) put them in and I could not get my finger off the starter button fast enough before it fired up.  20 minutes spent welding new angle irons in each battery box to lock them in and I'm done.  Also interesting side note-was at the tire shop today and a Napa guy was in- he does fleet work for a Napa with about 6 locations.  He told me 4 battery mfg's in US- East Penn-(Deka) Exide-(Fleet Pride one of their labels), Johnson Controls-(Interstate) and one other player that I forgot that does a lot of minor pvt. labels.

MrCat- Mike-called your guy-he only went as high as 940.  Price okay but given fact I was going from 4 to 2, wanted as much punch as I could get.
